UMS members, Fiona Reid and Jennifer Summers, contributed to a methodological review of approaches to calculating combined life-expectancy risks from fine particles and other cardiovascular risk factors during 2015/2016.

The aim was for the review to feed into a wider project in comparing life-expectancy risks including the effects of fine particles with those of other cardiovascular risk factors to aid prioritisation and communication of public health priorities in the King’s Health Partners boroughs.

The research consisted of two systematic reviews, and provided a stratified approach to calculating population attributable risk fractions (PARFs), as well as recommendations for approaches to stratification of PARFs.
